Foreign Minister Tobias Billström holds a press conference together with his Turkish colleague Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu in Ankara.

  • Ready for summit – Zelensky invited

    On February 3 next year, a summit will be held between the EU and Ukraine.

    – There is an open invitation to President Zelenskyj to visit Brussels, spokesperson Barend Leyts told Reuters.

  • Serious assault – one to hospital

    The police were called to a fight in central Uppsala on Thursday morning.

  • 26-year-old sentenced for knife attack

    A 26-year-old is sentenced to six years in prison for stabbing two people, announces the district court in Helsingborg.

    The incident took place in the Söder district of Helsingborg in March. One of the victims died from his injuries.

    The man is convicted of aggravated assault, aggravated weapons offences, robbery and money laundering. He was charged with murder and attempted murder – but according to the district court, it has not been possible to prove that he had the intent to kill. The man himself claims that he acted in self-defence.

  • Arla wins naming dispute over cheese

    Arla wins the name battle over Boxholm cheese, reports SVT East.

    The battle between Arla and Glada bonden started just over a year ago when Arla sued the dairy in Boxholm for trademark infringement.

    The happy farmer had then marketed his cheese as Äkta Boxholmsost.

    For the time being, the new cheeses may not be called Boxholm cheese.

  • The state takes over 99 percent of the energy giant

    Germany has completed the nationalization of the energy company Uniper.

    The German state now owns 99 percent of the shares, the government announced in a press release.

    The final announcement comes after both the European Commission and the shareholders have approved the nationalization.

    Uniper is a partner in Swedish nuclear power plants and previously had Fortum as the majority owner. The company found itself in an acute crisis when Russia cut off gas supplies to Europe. The losses for the first nine months of the year are estimated at around SEK 443 billion.

  • Boys are wanted in custody for involvement in attempted murder

    A 15-year-old boy is wanted in custody for the attempted murder at Coop in Kalmar on Sunday, reports P4 Kalmar.

    Two more boys between the ages of 16 and 17 are wanted in custody on suspicion of incitement to murder.

    All come from the Stockholm area.

  • Large spread of covid-19 in Sweden

    The spread of covid-19 is increasing throughout the country.

    This is the opinion of the University of Agriculture (SLU), which analyzed the wastewater in 13 municipalities, from Umeå in the north to Helsingborg in the south.

    – The levels of SARS-CoV2, the virus that causes COVID-19, have been at a fairly stable level during the autumn, but we have seen a very rapid increase during December, says Maja Malmberg, researcher at SLU, in a press release.

    In some municipalities the increase continues during week 50, while in other municipalities it has decreased or leveled off.

  • Up on the Stockholm Stock Exchange

    After yesterday’s rise, the Stockholm Stock Exchange continues upwards, reports TT.

    The OMXS index is up 0.4 percent after half an hour of trading. The real estate company SBB and Handelsbanken are in the lead among the OMXS30 companies, with 1.9 percent and 1.1 percent respectively.

  • Singing tenant is evicted

    A singing woman, who is in her 60s, has disturbed her neighbors to such an extent that she is now being thrown out of her apartment in Oxie outside Malmö, reports Home & Rent.

    For over a year, several complaints about the woman have been received by the landlord.

    According to the neighbors, the woman must have been singing loudly in her apartment for several hours straight. She also allegedly watched TV, cleaned and moved furniture around at all hours of the day.

    A neighbor says she woke up three to four times a night because of the woman’s singing.

    Despite several home visits and written warnings, nothing should have stopped the woman’s singing and noise in the apartment building.

    The tenancy committee now decides that the woman must therefore move out.

  • Analysis: 5,000 corona deaths per day in China

    Probably around one million people are infected daily by the coronavirus in China, reports Bloomberg citing a report from research firm Airfinity.

    They also estimate that around 5,000 people with covid-19 die per day.

    The eruption is described as the largest the world has seen so far.

    Cases of infection have increased sharply since China released its “zero covid policy”, which involved severe restrictions and shutdowns.

    The analysis firm also calculates that the number of cases will continue to increase.

  • Car leasing companies make big profits from the economic situation

    When interest rates have gone up, several car leasing companies have raised their fees.
