Big fire in Hamburg – toxic smoke blows into the city centre

The fire started at 4:30 a.m. in a warehouse in the Rothenburgsort area. It spread to other buildings and a large black cloud formed over the area. The wind is now driving the smoke towards central Hamburg, reports German Bild.

The emergency services describe the fire as “extremely dangerous” and the smoke as toxic.

– This is an extraordinarily difficult operation, a spokesman from the emergency services in Hamburg told Bild.

They estimate that the extinguishing work will continue throughout the day. According to initial information, no one was injured.
