Biden visits the border with Mexico

Joe Biden is to visit the border between Mexico and the United States for the first time since he took office as president of the United States.
The visit will take place in connection with the meeting that Biden and the leaders of Mexico and Canada will have in Mexico City next week.
Biden says his hope is to see what’s going on at the border.

Poland buys 116 tanks from the US
Poland has signed an agreement to buy 116 American Abrams tanks, writes the Norwegian news agency NTB.
Poland is gearing up its defenses heavily, after Russia invaded their neighbor Ukraine.
The tanks are said to cost 1.3 billion euros, corresponding to over 14 billion Swedish kronor. According to NTB, the US Foreign Ministry is contributing around 200 million dollars in support.
Last year, Poland bought 250 tanks of the same type to be delivered in 2024.
The first deliveries from the latest purchase are said to take place already this year.

The heavy snow storm has caused it in parts of Sweden during the day.
SMHI’s warning for northern Götaland is at the second highest level, orange, and will remain so until 09:00 tomorrow morning.
During the night, the wind turns to the northeast and up to 30 centimeters of snow can fall. The temperature is expected to be around zero.
In the southern part of the area, the snow will turn to rain during the evening, but may return to snow again tonight.

The EU’s crisis management mechanism IPCR “strongly urges” all EU countries to introduce requirements for corona tests for travelers from China, TT writes.
The majority of EU countries are in favor of introducing testing requirements. Exactly what the tests will look like is not yet clear.
Car across: E18/E45 blocked
A car has skidded into a central guardrail on the E18/E45 in Grums.
According to the police, no one was injured, but the car is blocking the entire lane.
The emergency services are on their way to the scene.

The woman who was found dead in Skövde on New Year’s Day had not been the victim of any crime, reports say P4 Skaraborg.
She was found outdoors in the residential area Frostaliden. For investigation reasons, the police opened a preliminary investigation into murder or manslaughter.
Today’s announcement comes after the Forensic Medicine Agency examined the body and made a preliminary assessment.
The person who was arrested in the investigation is completely cleared of suspicion.
The police are now conducting a death investigation without suspicion of crime.

Her most famous work is the novel “The Life and Desires of a She-Devil”, which was made into a movie in 1989 with the actor Meryl Streep in the lead role.
Fay Weldon was 91 years old.
Rapper no longer suspected of bombing
The rapper who was suspected of the explosion in Grimsta in western Stockholm is no longer a suspect.
All four who were arrested in the case have been completely written off, according to the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
Head-on crash – five people and baby involved
A head-on collision between two cars has occurred in Flo, Klev, outside Grästorp.
The alarm came in at 4:31 p.m.
– There are no injuries, but a woman and a child have been taken to hospital. No life-threatening injuries, says Hans-Jörgen Ostler, press spokesperson at the police command center.
The police are at the scene awaiting recovery.
There are no suspicions of crime.
Truck crash on E4 – long queues
Just before 4 p.m., a truck and a car collided on the E4 at the height of Sjögestad in Linköping.
No one is seriously injured.
The accident caused a complete standstill in the southbound direction.
Now the traffic will flow again, but there are long queues and it goes very slowly according to the police on site.
At 19:00 the truck must be recovered.
It is unclear what caused the accident, the police have launched an investigation.
Parking attendant beaten and stabbed
A parking attendant has been attacked by two perpetrators in Nydala, Malmö.
The alarm came in at 4:18 p.m. and according to the police, the parking attendant was beaten and stabbed during the attack, according to the police.
The person is taken to hospital by ambulance. The extent of the damage is unclear.

Fully developed industrial fire

The emergency services have issued a VMA.
It must be an industrial premises that is on fire and the fire is judged to be fully developed. It is unclear if anyone was injured.
The smell of fire can be felt over large parts of Uppsala.
