Biden: No F-16s for Ukraine right now

Ukraine wants the F-16 fighter jet and Zelenskyi has long appealed to the US and other countries to donate them.
Now Joe Biden says that at the moment it is not relevant from the US side, reports ABC News.
Biden and Foreign Minister Anthony Blinken have previously said that they are open to discussion. Now that door appears to be temporarily closed for Zelenskyi.
– He doesn’t need the F-16 now, says Biden in an interview with ABC News.
Biden is not saying that the US will never send the F-16, but that the US military believes that it is not justified now.
– We send him what our seasoned military believes he needs now. He needs tanks, artillery, air defense and Himars, says Biden.

Orbán: Must listen to Turkey’s concerns about Sweden
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán wants Sweden and Finland to join NATO. But his Fidesz party is divided.
On Friday, Orbán said on Hungarian radio that further talks are needed in the party because some are “not so enthusiastic” about inviting the countries into the alliance, Reuters reports.
At the same time, Orbán says that it is important to listen to Turkey’s attitude to a Swedish NATO membership and that Turkey’s concerns should be taken into account.
– Turkey is also one of our allies, and therefore we must also listen to them, says Orban.
The Hungarian parliament is to begin debating Sweden and Finland’s NATO application on Wednesday.

US President Joe Biden, 80, will run for a second term.
At least that’s how it sounds to his wife Jill Biden. She says in one interview with AP that he is ready and that there is basically just a lack of time and space to make it public.
In his statements, Joe Biden has hinted that he will run again, but has not given any official notice. He will be 86 at the end of a second term and his age has been debated as to whether he is too old for the job of President of the United States.
– He says he is not finished. He has not finished what he has started. That is what is important, she tells AP.
Traffic light man fought with rear view mirror
A man in his 70s is charged after a traffic incident in Simrishamn, writes Ystad’s Allehanda.
Last autumn, two cars collided in a village in Simrishamn. The man’s car is said to have suffered damage to a rear-view mirror.
He then got out of the car and walked towards the other driver, a man in his 40s.
The older man reportedly broke off the rear view mirror and hit the other driver in the back of the head.
Now he is charged with assault. He says in questioning that he does not remember being beaten, and can therefore neither deny nor admit crime.
The man in his 40s suffered a head wound and was not seriously injured.
EU agrees on tenth sanctions package
The EU has hammered through its tenth package of sanctions against Russia, reports Reuters.
The decision was made on the anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. This was announced by the Swedish EU presidency on Friday evening.
Among other things, the countries have agreed on tighter restrictions on the export of technology. In addition, measures are introduced against parties that support the war and supply Russia with drones. Russia has used hundreds of Iranian-made drones during the war.
The package is described as the most powerful to date.
The judge fell asleep – got fired
An elderly man in Stockholm has been fired from his role as a judge in the administrative court, reports Middle of.
The president of the court noticed during a hearing that the juror was sitting with his eyes closed. Then the chairman kicked him on the foot so that he woke up. A minute or so later he had dozed off again, whereupon the chairman gave him another kick.
When the juror closed his eyes a third time, the hearing was interrupted.
The man has denied the accusations and believes that he did not fall asleep, but closed his eyes to hear better.
Now he has been fired. The man is also said to have asked irrelevant questions in other cases, arrived late and not been to class and blamed for “computer trouble”, writes Mitt i.
The Administrative Court now considers that he is not suitable for the role of juror. He is considered to have “behaved in a way that risks damaging trust in the judiciary”.
Serious assault at a fast food place
A man in his 20s was taken to hospital by ambulance on Friday evening after a major fight at a fast food restaurant on Södermalm in Stockholm.
Another man, in his 30s, was injured but did not require hospital treatment.
A man in his 20s has been arrested and is now suspected of aggravated assault.
The assault occurred shortly before 9 p.m. and, according to the police, took place with blunt affection.
– Those involved are people who eat or have eaten. There are many involved, many witnesses and many patrols have been there, says Daniel Wikdahl, press spokesperson at the police’s regional command center.
Two cars in a head-on collision
Two cars have collided head-on outside Nynäshamn.
Police, emergency services and ambulance were called to the scene at 8pm on Friday evening. One person has been taken to hospital.
50,000 dead after the earthquakes
The death toll from the earthquake disaster in Turkey and Syria has passed 50,000, Reuters reports.
Over 44,000 people are said to have died in Turkey, according to the Turkish agency Afad.
6,000 people are said to have died in Syria.
Ukraine thanks: “Leopards from the Swedish lions”
Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov thanks Sweden after the announcement that it will send the Leopard 2 tank to Ukraine.
“Leopards for Ukraine from Swedish lions. Our nations are not only united by the colors of our flags. Thanks to Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, my colleague Pål Jonson and the Swedish people,” he writes on Twitter.
The police report Löfving’s death to the Work Environment Agency
The police authority has reported Mats Löfving’s death to the Work Environment Agency, reports SVT News.
– I know as little as everyone else about what actually happened. But I cannot rule out that the death is related to work and that is why I have made a report, which the Swedish Work Environment Authority has confirmed that they have received. I think it is good that it is tried, says Mattias Wahlstedt, head of office and deputy head of department at the legal department at the Police Authority.
The former regional police chief, Mats Löfving, was then reassigned to the legal department in December pending an investigation.
Attempted murder in grocery store – man stabbed
A 25-year-old man has been stabbed in a grocery store in central Sala.
The suspected perpetrator, who is in his 20s, was held at the scene by members of the public while waiting for the police. He is now arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.
The injured man has been taken to hospital. His condition is not considered life-threatening and he has been able to be questioned by the police.
