  • Alarm about detonation in Sundbyberg

    The police have received an alarm about a loud bang in central Sundbyberg, north of Stockholm.

    The police are on the scene together with the emergency services and ambulance personnel due to reports of a detonation in the stairwell of an apartment building, the police write on their website.

    – At the moment there is no information that anyone is injured, says Towe Hägg, the police’s press officer.

  • Forest fire in Kazakhstan – 14 dead

    A 60,000-hectare forest fire is spreading in Kazakhstan, according to the country’s Ministry of Emergency Situations.

    So far, 14 people are said to have died in the fire.

    More than 1,000 people participate in the extinguishing work.

    The fire started on Tuesday after a lightning strike, according to local authorities.

    The police were called to Hageby in Norrköping on Saturday afternoon where a child had been hit by a motorist, according to P4 Östergötland.

    Ted Kaczynski, also known as the Unabomber, has been found dead in his cell, reports ABC News.

    Kaczynski was arrested in 1996 after nearly 20 years of sending bombs to several universities. The bombs killed a total of three people and injured over 20 others. In 1998 he was sentenced to life imprisonment for murder.

    Kaczynski turned 81.

    There is a fire in a forest area in Nordåsen, outside Herrljunga.

    The emergency services are on site with several units.

    – There are supposed to be 13 units on site, but we have not received any information about the extent of the fire, says Linda Bergkvist, team leader at SOS Alarm.

    In connection with the extinguishing work, the Swedish Transport Administration announces that road 181 has been closed in both directions.

    A young man is in serious condition after being stabbed in Oslo.

    Gjermund Stokkli, operational manager in the Oslo police district, states for The daily newspaper that the stabbing must have occurred outside a school.

    The 31-year-old who the day before yesterday attacked four children and two adults with a knife in a playground in Annecy, France, is now charged with attempted murder, reports AFP.

    The youngest child was barely two years old and the oldest three.

    Over a hundred moped riders ride around Stockholm and try to get the police’s attention.

    – Their goal is apparently to try to get us to chase them, but we don’t intend to do that, says police spokesperson Ola Österling.

    In a film, the mopeds can be seen riding on both sides of Sveavägen. They drove in the direction of Sergel’s square and stopped other traffic temporarily.

    According to the police, the moped gang applied for permission from the city of Stockholm to ride around on Saturday, but was refused.

    The police did not intervene, but drove both before and after them. At 1 pm they were seen at Norrtull and according to the police they are on their way to Värtahamnen.
