In July 2021, a 22-year-old man was shot to death at a hair salon on Marklandsgatan in Gothenburg.
He was sitting in the barber’s chair when two masked criminals entered through the back door.
– Both have pistols, and shoot the plaintiff, prosecutor Maria Thorell has previously told Aftonbladet.
In the district court, two men were sentenced to 12 years in prison.
But the Court of Appeal for Western Sweden is now acquitting one of the accused men, who are both 20 years old. He had been convicted of murder in the district court.
“According to the Court of Appeal, the evidence is not sufficient to establish that he was one of the shooters. DNA evidence on a partially burned shirt found near the crime scene is inconvenient for him but not in itself sufficient for a conviction”.
The other 20-year-old is still convicted of aiding and abetting murder. The value of the penalty is deemed to correspond to life imprisonment, but due to the legislation in force at the time of the crime, the length of the penalty is reduced to nine years in prison.
