    Greece declares three days of national mourning.

    Now it has been confirmed that over 80 people died in yesterday’s disaster in the Mediterranean. Surviving witnesses estimate that there were up to 750 migrants on board.

  • Paludan was arrested by Danish police

    Rasmus Paludan has been arrested by Danish police on Bornholm, det reports BT.

    – Based on the current threat picture, we have assessed that Rasmus Paludan’s participation in the People’s Assembly 2023 will be associated with a concrete and imminent danger to both his own safety and that of others, says Chief Police Inspector Dannie Rise.

    Paludan was supposed to hold an event at the Folkmötet on Thursday, but is not allowed by the police to enter the Folkmötet area.

    Paludan tells BT that he was detained by the police for 18 minutes and that he is frustrated with how he has been treated. According to Paludan, the police led him into the forest.

    The People’s Meeting, which is currently taking place on Bornholm, is the Danish version of Almedal Week.

  • Government: MSB gets 50 million extra – to go to Ukraine

    The government has today decided to give the Swedish Agency for Community Protection and Preparedness, MSB, an additional SEK 50 million.

    The money is to go to international civilian efforts to Ukraine and affected neighboring countries due to Russia’s invasion.

    – The needs in Ukraine are still enormous and Swedish support must keep up the pace and make a difference. The explosion of the Kakhovka dam is another example of the need for continued and persistent support for efforts on the ground. The Swedish support is long-term and will continue as long as it is required, says Minister for Aid and Foreign Trade Johan Forssell (M).

    British actor Glenda Jackson has died after a long illness, PA reports.

    Glenda Jackson has won two Oscars for “Women in Love” from 1970 and “A Touch of Class” from 1973.

    She has also been praised for her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth I in the BBC series Elizabeth R.

    She was 87 years old.

  • Russia plans elections in occupied Ukrainian territories

    Russian authorities want to hold elections in the Ukrainian territories they occupied and annexed. The elections are supposed to be held in September, writes the Russian state news agency Tass.

    The Central Russian Election Committee decided on Thursday to schedule elections in the regions for September 10.

    The elections are supposed to be held in Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhya and Kherson regions.

    At a press conference, Minister for Civil Defense Carl-Oskar Bohlin announced that the risk of forest fires this summer is high.

  • Referendum on M politician’s salary in Sölvesborg

    The referendum is about whether the salary of Sölvesborg’s deputy chairman of the municipal board, Kith Mårtensson (M), should be reduced or not.

    According to the opposition councilor Louise Erixon (SD) – who together with Robert Manea (KD) and Emilie Pilthammar (MED) – writes a debate article in Aftonbladet – the municipal councilor has increased his salary by 80 percent.

    They describe the whole thing as an “almost grotesque fee increase”.

    Previously, the compensation for the deputy chairman of the municipal board was 20 percent of a full-time salary. But the new board decided that the inheritance would be 100 percent, which would mean a cost increase of over SEK 3.4 million over the mandate period.

    A car with two passengers has driven off the road and overturned at Hovenäset in Sotenäs.

    Police, ambulance and emergency services are on their way to the scene.

    King Harald has fallen on the red carpet in Copenhagen, according to VG.

    The Norwegian king is on a state visit to Denmark and was going up a flight of stairs when the incident occurred.

    The king got help quickly, and was quickly back on his feet. After the fall, he continued to walk on his own and appeared to be in good shape, according to the newspaper.

    The incident occurred after the royal couple had disembarked from the royal house’s ship Norway, Nordre Tolbod in Copenhagen.

    King Harald is 86 years old.

  • Investigation: Boris Johnson lied to Parliament

    Boris Johnson deliberately misled the British Parliament about the partygate scandal on several occasions during his tenure as UK Prime Minister. This is according to a new investigation from the parliament that was published today, British media reports.

    According to the investigation, Johnson would be suspended from parliament for 90 days for “attempting to undermine the parliamentary and democratic process”.

    The investigation has been going on for several months and Johnson himself has called it “a witch hunt”.

    Boris Johnson decided to leave his duties last week.

    In an official statement, he now comments on the investigation:

    “This is nonsense. It’s a lie”.

  • The Transport union announces a strike

    The Transport union announces a strike in the guarding and security industry, which may affect the security checks at Bromma airport and Landvetter, TT reports.

    The reason is the demand for a higher starting salary.

    A 34-year-old woman is suspected of stabbing a ten-year-old girl in Ängelholm.

    – I have worked with national politics for more than 20 years. I felt that if I was going to do anything else in life, now is a good time. At the same time, I want to create the best possible conditions for the party to find a successor and give that person the chance to do the best possible job, says Per Bolund.

    Bolund announces that he will not stand for re-election in the autumn, after which he will leave both party work and the Riksdag.

  • The fires in Ljusdal are still out of control

    It is still burning along the railway north of Ljusdal.

    – It has been ignited in several places on a stretch that is at least 3-4 kilometers long, says Martin Johansson, emergency manager at the rescue service.

    Four helicopters water bombs since last night and 15-20 vehicles have worked during the night with the extinguishing work.

    Due to the fires, there is a total stop in train traffic between Ljusdal and Ånge.

    The fires have been going on since yesterday and according to the current forecast, the extinguishing work is expected to last at least until 5 pm today.

    Hard to know. What I do know is that the trial was supposed to be held now in June, but that it was postponed at the request of the prosecutor. The prosecutor believes that the trial can be held at the end of July at the earliest. You can read more here.
