Last minute… The “humanitarian aid” bill to Ukraine, submitted by Russia to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), was not accepted because it did not receive the required 9 votes, only China supported the bill, and 13 countries abstained.
While the UN General Assembly held a session that drew attention to the humanitarian consequences of the war in Ukraine, Russia brought its own bill to the UN Security Council on the grounds that this session was “politicized”.
Russia, which never mentioned the responsibility of the war in Ukraine, but “concerned about the deteriorating humanitarian situation” in the country, put to vote in the UN Security Council.
ONLY CHINA SUPPORTED
Only Russia and China supported the bill in the 15-member council, while 13 countries abstained. Russia’s bill was not accepted because it did not get the required 9 votes in the UN Security Council.
For a bill to be accepted at the UNSC, at least 9 “yes” votes must be cast and 5 permanent members of the council must not veto it.
In the bill submitted by Russia to the UNSC, which strongly condemns the attacks on civilians and is concerned about the deteriorating humanitarian situation, there was no mention of the person responsible for the attacks.
On the other hand, the UN General Assembly is discussing a new bill that will deepen the diplomatic isolation of Russia, which draws attention to the humanitarian consequences of the war in Ukraine and calls for more assistance, and is preparing to vote this week. (AA)
