According to reports in Japanese state media, Yamagami, who was detained by the police immediately after the action, claimed in his statement that his action was not caused by a grudge against Abe’s political views.
Yamagami argued that he carried out the attack out of a grudge against a “specific organization” that he believed was linked to Abe.
Kyodo’s report also stated that the investigators conducting the investigation had the impression that Yamagami’s statements were referring to a religious group.
