The following statement was made by the General Directorate of Maritime Affairs regarding the incident:
“During the meeting with Shanghai MRCC, our AAKK Center learned that the Marshall flagged ship OMEGA sank as a result of a conflict with the ship named MIRABELLA off the coast of Shanghai, and 21 sailors, 16 of whom were Turkish, who left the ship with the lifeboat, were taken from the sea by the sinking ship.
FOREIGN AFFAIRS WAS ACTIVE
A meeting has been held with the 3rd Captain of the ship and coordination is being provided with our Ministry of Foreign Affairs and MRCC China for the evacuation of sailors who are in good health from the ship. Get well soon.”
