President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan made important statements before his departure to Lithuania for the NATO Summit yesterday. Erdogan’s statement on Sweden’s NATO membership “Right now, there is a Turkey that has been waiting at the EU gate for more than 50 years. Currently, almost all of the NATO member countries are EU members. I am calling out to these countries that have kept Turkey waiting at the EU gate for more than 50 years, but I will also call out in Vilnius. Clear the way for the EU, then let’s clear the way for Sweden, just as we paved the way for Finland.” he said.

Erdogan’s exit from the EU became the agenda. NATO Secretary General Stoltenberg, the USA and Sweden made statements one after another and expressed their support for Turkey. Finally, a statement came from German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on this issue. “At the NATO Summit, we will discuss the relationship between Erdogan and Turkey and the EU,” Scholz said.

Making the opening speech of the meeting, Stoltenberg said, “Today we will take many decisions, in order to become a stronger and stronger alliance. We will also express our political support for Ukraine. We will discuss what we can do so that Ukraine can come to NATO where it belongs. “We will discuss what we will do to further strengthen our defense lines for the defense of the Euro-Atlantic Area,” he said.
