Last minute: A very harsh message came from Russian President Vladimir Putin. Putin, who used very harsh words for the ongoing anti-war protests in his country against the occupation of Ukraine, called the protesters “scum and traitors”.
Expressing that the West is trying to destroy Russia, Putin made the following statements in the continuation of his statement;
“Any people, even the Russian people, will always be able to distinguish true patriots from scumbags and traitors and spit them out like a fly that accidentally gets into their mouth. I believe that a natural and necessary social cleansing will strengthen our country. The West is trying to divide our society, speculating about military casualties.” By provoking internal conflict in Russia, their aim is only to destroy Russia, as I have said before.”
JET RESPONSE FROM USA: THE WAR IS NOT GOING LIKE IT
The White House responded to Putin’s statements. White House Spokesperson Jen Psaki interpreted these statements as an indication that the war was not going as Putin wanted.
“I think this is a clear indication that the war is not going as President Putin wanted. Many protests were held bravely, and even in Russia, many people spoke out against the war. Therefore, the effort to put pressure on the opposition, to oppress the freedom of the press and the freedom of protest is actually the last few days. It’s pretty consistent with the approach we’ve seen over the years. But I think that’s just an indication of that.”
