Christine Lambrecht, in a statement on the Twitter account of the German Ministry of Defense, stated that she decided to leave her post and conveyed this to Prime Minister Scholz.

“The media focus on me for months does not allow for objective reporting and discussion about the soldiers, the armed forces and security policy decisions that are in the interest of German citizens. The valuable work of the soldiers and the many motivated people in the army should be at the forefront. That’s why I decided to leave my job.”

Lambrecht, who thanked everyone who gave him this opportunity and supported him, is expected to make a statement on the subject in the coming days.

According to a survey of 5,000 people in Germany, the majority of the public believed that Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht should be sacked.

77 percent of those polled by the opinion research firm Civey for the news portal t-online supported the dismissal of Minister Lambrecht.

13 percent of the respondents thought that the minister should remain in office. 10% of the respondents stated that they were undecided on this issue.

Defense Minister Lambrecht’s taking his son to visit the soldiers in an army helicopter and sharing his son’s photo taken in a helicopter on social media were also heavily criticized. Lambrecht and his son were on vacation after the visit. Lambrecht admitted months later that he had taken the photograph in question.
