Breaking news… The leaders of the European Union (EU) member states approved the decision to grant Bosnia and Herzegovina candidate country status for EU membership.
The EU leaders, who came together at the summit meeting in Brussels, evaluated the recommendation taken by the ministers responsible for European affairs of the EU countries the previous day on granting candidacy status to Bosnia and Herzegovina to join the union.
An official from the European Council told reporters that the leaders approved the candidacy status for Bosnia and Herzegovina.

EU Commissioner responsible for enlargement Oliver Varhelyi said in a statement after the decision was announced, “This is a historic decision. The future of Bosnia and Herzegovina is in the EU.” used the phrase.
The European Council stated that it was ready to grant candidate status to Bosnia and Herzegovina on 23 June and invited the Commission to submit a report on the implementation of 14 key priorities.
Oliver Varhelyi also announced on October 12 that a proposal had been made to grant “candidate country” status to Bosnia and Herzegovina, which is a “potential candidate” country.
Candidacy status is the first step in a country’s long-term EU accession process. After a country is granted candidate status, accession negotiations begin at a later stage, provided that the conditions are met. Accession negotiations can take years to begin. (AA)
