Breaking news: Dozens of people were reported killed in an airstrike by the Saudi-backed Arab coalition on a prison in northern Yemen.
70 DEAD ACCORDING TO INITIAL DETERMINATIONS
In the statement made on the Twitter account of Doctors Without Borders, it was recorded that the airstrike was carried out on the Remand Prison in the Saada region, which is under the control of the Iranian-backed Houthis.
It was stated that the dead and injured were transferred to the Al-Cumhuriye Hospital after the attack last night, while according to the first determinations, 70 people died and 138 were injured.
MANY BODYS ARE THOUGHT UNDER THE WRUSH
In a statement made by the non-governmental organization Save the Children, it was reported that at least 60 people lost their lives in the air strike yesterday. It is thought that the search and rescue efforts in the detention center continue and there are many bodies under the rubble.
The foundation also announced that 3 children lost their lives in the missile attack in the city of Al-Hudeidah and called on the parties to the conflict to protect children and their families from “continuing violence” and to avoid the use of explosive weapons in populated areas.
Following the reflection of the attack in the press, coalition forces stated that the attack would be investigated. “We take this report very seriously and all reports of this nature will be fully investigated using an internationally approved, independent process. While the process is ongoing, further comment would be inappropriate,” Coalition spokesman Brigadier General Turki al-Malki said in a statement.
Coalition forces intensified airstrikes on Houthi targets after the Houthis increased their attacks on the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Saudi Arabia.
INTERNET INTERNET EXPERIENCES OVER THE COUNTRY
It has been reported that there has been internet outage in Yemen since yesterday, except for the city of Aden. The Houthis claimed that the reason for the blackout was an attack by coalition forces on a telecommunications facility in the city of Al-Hudayda.
The UAE’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN) Lana Nusseibeh said in a statement yesterday, when asked about the air strikes carried out by the coalition forces in Yemen, “The coalition is committed to complying with international law and proportionate response in all its military operations.”
On the other hand, the Houthis have been in control of the capital Sana and some regions in Yemen since September 2014. The Saudi-led coalition forces, on the other hand, have been supporting the Yemeni government against the Houthis since March 2015.
