WHO Europe Director Dr. Kluge emphasized that an informative presentation was made to the WHO Board of Directors regarding the earthquake in Turkey and Syria, and stated that a Level 3 Emergency was declared. Dr. “I appreciate and appreciate the first responders, including WHO staff at our field office in Gaziantep, who responded when their own lives were in danger,” Kluge said in a statement.

Noting that WHO Europe’s teams are operating in Gaziantep, Anlara and Istanbul, Kluge said, “I commend the Turkish authorities for launching a remarkable response operation to save lives. I thank the Member States for their tremendous solidarity. I invite the international community to continue to increase its support and to ensure full coordination with the Government of Turkey and WHO.
