The US Geological Survey (USGS) announced that the magnitude 6 earthquake was 117 kilometers south of the city of Pagar Alam on Sumatra Island and at a depth of 58.8 kilometers.
TSUNAMI FEAR
According to eyewitnesses, at the time of the earthquake, people in the region panicked and left their homes for fear of tsunami and rushed to higher areas. Then, messages were sent to the residents of the region from the relevant institutions that there was no danger of tsunami.
Meanwhile, Indonesia Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Institute announced the magnitude of the earthquake as 6.5, but stated that it was too deep to trigger the tsunami.
No loss of life or property damage was reported after the earthquake. (AA)
