Monday was the hottest day on record, but according to unofficial figures, Tuesday and Wednesday were even hotter.
In terms of global air and water temperatures, last June was the hottest June in the entire measurement history.
June 2023 exceeded the 1991–2023 average by a little more than half a degree. The previous record for the hottest June from 2019 was clearly exceeded, says an EU official who analyzed a huge number of global measurement readings Copernicus programme.

The June heat records were broken especially in the northwestern parts of Europe: Great Britain, Ireland, Belgium and the Netherlands. It was also warmer than usual in Scandinavia and France, and it was even warmer in parts of North America, Asia and Australia.
On the other hand, it was cooler than usual in the western parts of Australia, the United States and Russia, among others.
This week there has also been news about the hottest day in the Earth’s measurement history, which was Monday, July 3, according to the US National Meteorological Institute NCEP. The average temperature of the globe at that time was 17.01 degrees.
However, immediately on Tuesday and Wednesday, the climate analysis of the University of Maine in the United States measured even higher, not officially confirmed daily readings: 17.18 degrees on both days.
The reason behind the breaking of heat records is both climate change caused by human greenhouse emissions and the natural El Niño phenomenon.
According to C3S, the sea surface temperature was also the highest worldwide in the history of measurements. “Extreme marine heatwaves” were observed in June in the Baltic Sea and around Ireland and Britain.
At the same time, the Antarctic ice sheet was the smallest it has been in June in the entire time that satellite monitoring has been done.
In June, part of China declared a state of emergency due to record heat, and parts of Britain had to ration water.
In the United States, 13 people died due to health problems caused by the extreme heat wave in the states of Texas and Louisiana.
