Last Epoch was a hit on Steam in early 2024 – Now it brings new features reminiscent of rival Diablo 4

On September 19th, an event will start in Last Epoch (Steam, Linux) and will bring new features to the game that are reminiscent of its rival Diablo 4. A complete cycle reset will also take place.

What kind of event is this? The Imperial Uprising event runs from September 19th at 4:00 p.m. to October 20th, 2024 at 7:00 a.m. and brings several new features to Last Epoch:

  • Bonuses on gold, reputation and the drop rate for uniques
  • new undead enemies in the monoliths
  • a kind of treasure goblins, as we know them from Diablo 4
  • 28 additional new shrines
  • a new stash tab priority system

    • In addition, a complete cycle reset will take place as soon as the event starts. This means that all current cycle characters will move to “Legacy” and a new cycle will begin with a fresh economy and new leaderboards.

    Most recently, the new content update 1.1 “Harbingers of Ruin” on July 9, 2024, brought a feature to Last Epoch that was reminiscent of Diablo 4: dodging. Previously, it was not possible to dodge with the player character in Last Epoch outside of special skills.

    Shrines, “Treasure Goblins” and Event Bonuses

    Which features are reminiscent of Diablo 4? In addition to evasion, the event will bring features to Last Epoch that many ARPG fans will already know from Diablo 4. 28 new shrines will be added to Last Epoch, which the developers say will remain in the game after the event. Shrines have already existed in the ARPG before.

    The new “Loot Lizards” in particular are reminiscent of familiar enemies from Diablo 4. Similar to the treasure goblins, the creatures drop loot, and there are five different types of them – with different loot pools. If you don’t attack them, they disappear. They remain in the game after the event.

    The reset to a new season, or in this case to a new cycle, is also something we already know from Diablo 4. This was also the case in Last Epoch, but this time it takes place as part of an event. The “Imperial Uprising” event gives you bonuses that help you progress faster.

    Diablo 4 also has regular events that give players bonuses.

    Why is there a reset? The complete reset for the event allows all players a fresh start. In the forum, the developers write that the rankings and the bazaar will also be reset, and the economy will restart. This should create a balanced competition. They also write that they are not planning any balance changes, as this is not the start of a new patch cycle, but a refresh and a restart of the economy from 1.1.

    The developers cite the following specific reasons for the reset:

  • Difficulty balance: Players’ skills and effort should determine the difficulty of the game, not the ability to exploit game mechanics.
  • Quality of Life adjustments: The developers are making some QoL changes. Waiting for a new cycle would take too long and they don’t want to burden the community with that.
  • Feedback: A cycle event is a good way to implement feedback from the community and collect feedback for related features.
