A player in the White Horse tackled a referee and receives over a year’s suspension as punishment.
Lasse Granqvist is surprised by the verdict.
“Someone more versed in sports law is welcome to try to explain,” writes the TV4 profile on X.
Vita Hästen played last season in the Hockeyallsvenskan, but was forcibly relegated due to bankruptcy and now plays in Division 3. The club from Norrköping has thus received less attention. But this week something happened that put the White Horse in the spotlight.
Criticized the situation
In Sunday’s match against Motala, the White Horse player went Casper Gillberg straight into the head referee, at the score 0-0. The situation arose after a Motala player and Gillberg went towards the puck, whereupon the referee gets in the way of the latter, who then tackles the referee. The event can be seen below.

The referee broke his arm in the tackle and needed to be taken to hospital. After the situation, there is a big discussion and storm of criticism against Casper Gillberg, who apologized on Monday.
“What happens is wrong, I end up wrong and the only thing to do is accept the punishment that the disciplinary board imposes based on the television images. I received Jesper’s contact details during the day and wished Jesper a speedy recovery. I also want to take the opportunity to apologize to my teammates, the association, partners and supporters for what happened,” he writes.
Granqvist rages
During Tuesday, the disciplinary committee came up with its punishment – a suspension until December 31, 2024. That is, over a year away from hockey.
– I trust that they have made the right decision in this matter. I really feel sorry for the referee who injures himself so badly that he breaks his arm. That shouldn’t have to happen, says Vita Hästen’s chairman Frederick Jensen to TT.

“Surprisingly lenient sentence. Such violence against an official should reasonably be able to result in suspension from all sports. But here the decision-making body chose to include only ice hockey. Someone more versed in sports law is welcome to try to explain,” writes the commentator and presenter on X.
