Peter “Pekka” Lindmark was a great hockey player.
Now he is praised by Lasse Granqvist.
– Imagine coming from the mine in Kiruna and becoming such an incredibly large and important part of ice hockey, says Granqvist in the Sporthuset podcast.
Peter Lindmark is one of the best Swedish hockey goaltenders of all time. “Pekka” was with Tre Kronor and won two WC golds, three WC silvers and an Olympic bronze. In 1981 and 1986 he was named the world’s best goalkeeper.
Lindmark is celebrated
Lindmark grew up in Kiruna and came up in Kiruna AIF before switching to Kiruna IFK. As a 16-year-old(!) Pekka left school and started working in the mine in Kiruna. After playing in Timrå IK, he went to Färjestad, where he won two SM golds. Then Peter was involved and took Malmö IF (today Malmö Redhawks) from Division 1 to the best in Sweden. There were two SM golds with Malmö.

Today it is 26 years since Pekka ended his professional playing career, and now he is being celebrated again for his hockey deed.
– He has meant a lot to Malmö hockey. It was he who made the entire trip credible. That you manage to sign a goalkeeper of that dignity, who has won SM gold just before, won WC gold in 1987. To find that type of goalkeeper today, I would say, is completely impossible.
– If they hadn’t signed Pekka there, they probably wouldn’t have received a tape of all the players who came after that, so he is very important for that whole part and it is the most successful period in the entire history of Malmö IF, says the hockey reporter Johan Svensson when he is a guest on the Sporthuset podcast.
Granqvist’s scouting
The former chairman was recently celebrated in Malmö Percy Nilsson for their deeds. Then noticed Lasse Granqvist that the focus was directed at a certain other hockey legend in place.
– Then one of the main attractions, apart from the main actor himself then – it is not possible to talk about Malmö IF’s heyday without mentioning his enormous importance of course – but it was Peter “Pekka” Lindmark who was there side by side with his old friend then, says Granqvist in the podcast.

The TV4 profile also celebrates Pekka’s journey to greatness.
– Imagine coming from the mine in Kiruna, 600 meters below the surface of the ground, all the way down to, as far as you can get in the other end of Sweden actually, and becoming such an incredibly large and important part for ice hockey in the football city of Malmö. Because we must remember that this is what we are talking about anyway.
– And surely he became Pekka with the entire Swedish people?, asks Tommy Åström in the podcast.
– Absolutely! Yes, answers Granqvist.
