Lassa fever, which is seen in many African countries such as Mali, Togo, Ghana, Liberia and Sierra Leone, was first detected in Nigeria in 1969 in the Borno state in the northeast of the country.

The Nigerian government declared an emergency due to Lassa fever on January 23, 2019.

HOW IS IT TRANSMITTED?

The disease, transmitted through contact with mouse feces, can be passed from person to person and causes fatal hemorrhagic fever.
