Reminding that constipation is the leading cause of hemorrhoids, Memorial Dicle Hospital General Surgery Specialist Dr. Cemalettin Durğun said that hemorrhoids usually manifest themselves with complaints of bleeding, palpable swelling, wetness and itching.
Stating that the vascular networks in the breech are normally cushions that prevent the formation of gas leakage outward when the breech is at rest, Durğun said, “If these cushions are deformed after a certain period of time, they hang outward and form hemorrhoidal disease.”
Explaining that there are various treatment methods according to the stage of the disease, Durğun said, “We also choose the treatments according to the patients. In other words, after the clinical examination of the patient, the procedure is determined according to the hemorrhoid stage of the patient. Laser therapy is a very popular treatment method for the last 10 years. In this method, the hemorrhoidal pack is extinguished by entering the root of the hemorrhoidal pack with a small probe in the form of a pen, by making 3 or 5 shots into the vascular networks in this pack.
Durğun said, “When the laser method is compared to open surgery, there is no incision or suturing during the surgery, so postoperative pain is much less for the patients.” Afterwards, the return time to work is much shorter, especially for working patients.
Stating that the treatment method is applied according to the stage after the hemorrhoid procedure is determined, Durğun said, “When laser therapy is applied to the appropriate stage, it provides permanent solutions. The success rate is around 80%,” he said.

Explaining the main causes of hemorrhoids, Durğun said, “Constipation, diarrhea, bad eating habits, insufficient fluid intake are the main causes of hemorrhoids. As people delay their admission to the hospital, the stages of hemorrhoids are usually advanced. When we examine patients, we usually see patients in the 3rd and 4th stages. During this period, there is no other option but surgery. But in the treatment of hemorrhoids, diet and drug treatments, which we call conservative, have a very important place.
Increasing the daily fiber intake, which we call dietary treatments, and drinking at least 2 liters of fluid provides an average of 50 percent symptomatic relief. With drug treatments, 80% of hemorrhoids can be treated symptomatically. However, when the application process to the hospital is delayed, most of the patients who apply to the hospital unfortunately have to undergo surgery.
