When Växjö was about to launch “Wild Food Day” among the municipality’s schools and nursing homes, the kitchen staff realized that there were larvae crawling in the meat that was to be used. The Kalops, which was planned with venison, had to be vegetarian instead, writes Smålandsposten.
It ended up with the municipality having to throw away around 900 kilos of venison bought in for the meal.
– It’s not positive when we want to lift game and want to serve more game, says Anna Lorentzson who is head of Växjö municipality’s meal organization to the newspaper.
The discarded meat will now become biogas instead. Samples of the meat have been sent for analysis.
