Although Van den Berg has already participated in a Grand Tour twice before – he rode the Giro d’Italia in 2021 and 2023 – the Tour de France surprised him. “There is so much media attention, everyone wants something from you. But also people along the side. At one point it almost became a goat path where you had to stand still, because there were so many people you had to cycle through. It gave me I had a lot of goosebumps in the first few days, so I flew through the finals without noticing that I was suffering.”
