Sweden lost to Norway.
Afterwards, Janne Andersson’s new decision was criticized by Lars Lagerbäck.
– I do not buy it, he says.
Sweden got off to a dream start in the Nations League against Slovenia last week. It was a 2-0 victory, and Janne Andersson had several good answers before this weekend’s meeting against Norway.
Heavy loss
But against the neighboring rival, it became heavier for blue-yellow. Norway took the lead early through the big star Erling Braut Haaland after a dubious penalty. The Norwegian talent then increased to 2-0 with his second goal of the match, and closer than Anthony Elanga’s reduction in stoppage time, Sweden never came.
Ahead of the national team gathering, Sweden and Janne Andersson have changed a completely new game idea, which will be tested during the matches in the Nations League before the European Championship qualifiers after the turn of the year.
The former Swedish national team captain Lars Lagerbäck was in Viasat’s studio, and after the match he criticized Janne Andersson’s choice to try something new during the Nations League – and then impair Sweden’s chances of making it to a championship.
Lagerbäck’s critique
– I do not buy it, but I have full respect for the fact that Janne has chosen to build something new. But the Nations League’s significance for Swedish national team football is huge. If they win the group, they will probably be seeded as second in the European Championship qualifiers and will probably get an extra playoff chance, says Lagerbäck to Viasat and continues:
– Therefore, this is a very difficult trade-off, and now Janne has chosen to go like this and then I have respect for it.
Janne Andersson later had the chance to respond to Lars Lagerbäck’s criticism, and to some extent agreed with the former Swedish national team captain.
– I’m not so sure that there will be better results if I continue in the same way (as before). That is really the answer. If you do something, you have to be consistent, and I intend to continue to be, says Andersson.
