Hanging the lamps in the ‘tree’ is a big job every year. Whether it would happen again this year was still exciting. Could it continue because of the higher energy costs? “That was not too bad for us,” says Van Zijl. “Those 120 lamps consume about the same amount as a street lamp. We were more concerned with the donations. Because everyone is a bit tighter, it took a while for them to get going.” But – like almost every year – those donations turned out well.
