The shortage of teachers is great in the country. In Kiruna, two schools were closed during the autumn term due to staff shortages. According to the Swedish National Agency for Education, 57,000 teachers and preschool teachers are needed in the next five years.
– “We are losing teachers all the time, teacher qualifications are falling. Therefore, there is a big risk that there will be more, that there will be more security stops, not only in Kiruna but throughout the country,” says chief security representative Carina Lindberg at the Teachers’ Union in Kiruna.
In the government’s Time Agreement, they now want to ease the administrative burden on teachers and at the same time invest in rapid training of graduates.
