Large surface raclette: there is one better than the others, according to 60 million consumers

Large surface raclette there is one better than the others

In the middle of the raclette season, 60 million consumers have compared what can be found in supermarkets, and recommend a particular brand.

The squeegee, it is THE convivial winter meal that all cheese lovers crave. It is found at the cheese maker, but also in supermarkets. What are the raclette cheeses offered in the supermarket worth? 60 Million consumers pondered the question.

Only one type of tome was targeted by the investigation, plain with a rind and pasteurized milk. Then, six brands were tasted blind, but also studied in terms of origin, additives… The objective was to evaluate the references both from a taste point of view, but also from a of their appearance once melted, and of course to study their composition.

Chemically identical products

Thus, Entremont, RichesMonts, the U brand, Chêne d’Argent sold by Lidl, Carrefour Original or even Les Croisés sold at Leclerc were scrutinized. When you are about to eat this type of dish, you may tend to orient yourself towards the brands with the names that evoke the mountains the most, and which give the impression of being of better quality (these are also often most expensive). Are we right? Nothing is less certain… These six companies are not supplied by six different alpine producers, far from it: the squeegees actually only come from two factorieslocated in the Haute-Loire and in the Côtes-d’Armor… Not so much to do with the origin of this cheese, then!

The composition of these foods is strictly the same, none of them is fatter than another! They both have two additives: a coagulating enzyme and a preservative. That said, they don’t all have exactly the same taste or the same texture, depending on the amount of salt they contain, for example.

On the other hand, their prices are not the same, it goes from 8.55 euros to 13.07 euros, notes 60 Million consumers. The product that won the test is the U brand raclettewith a nutri-score D. Not for its nutritional qualities, then… but because it would have a stronger taste than the others.
