The Swedish Medicines Agency warns
Elin Maria Bergsten is an investigator at the Swedish Medicines Agency. She advises everyone from using “Barbie drug”.
– It’s completely uncontrolled, you don’t know what it contains, she says.
The side effects you can get is unclear, especially in the long term. What has been reported is nausea and vomiting. There is also a concern that the drug may cause skin cell changes, which can lead to skin cancer.
Illegal to sell in Sweden
In Norway it is illegal to sell, buy and use Melanotan 2. 2024 over 900 units were seized.
In Sweden, it is only illegal to sell the drug. Since it is not drug classified, the Swedish Customs Administration has limited opportunities to intervene. It seized only five units in the same 2024.
The Customs Administration, on the other hand, can stop medicines that come as a post from countries outside the EU and also commercial transport if the import regulations are not met.
