Large mammoth find in wine cellar: “I thought it was a piece of wood”

Andreas Pernerstorfer owns a small vineyard in Northern Austria. The vineyard has been passed down for several generations and was in great need of renovation.

But when Andreas got down to renovating the wine cellar, he made an unexpected discovery that would elude the country’s archaeologists. In the basement, there were bones from three mammoths that are believed to be up to 40,000 years old.

– At first I thought it was a piece of wood. But then I realized that grandfather once told me that he found teeth, he says.
