Pictures from the scene show how the police’s blue and white cordon has been set up at several road crossings and how security guards and police officers in warning equipment are directing traffic and pedestrians away from the area.
According to the police, a suspicious bag was found in the area. The alarm came in at 9.40pm and the National Bomb Squad is on its way to the scene to examine the bag. The closures affect both vehicle traffic and pedestrians.
– Strömbron and Kungsträdgårdsgatan at the height of the Karl XII statue are cordoned off. We are there and redirecting the traffic, says Carina Skagerlind at the police’s regional command center to SVT.
– We have a high security mindset because there are many people out and we take the safe before the unsafe.
A visitor to Stockholm’s culture festival, which is taking place in several places in the nearest quarters and ends this evening, tells SVT that the last band was supposed to play, but that they only had time for one song before they were forced to end.
– The only thing we heard from a security guard was that they had found something, says festival visitor Ellinor Lundvik and continues:
– Nobody knows anything, they started blocking off the stage and then we have been moved further and further away. Now everyone is standing outside the castle, she says.
At Gustav Adolfs torg near the Kungsträdgården, the festival’s final performance is taking place at 11 p.m. at the same time as planned, according to the organizer.
