The government wants to make it illegal to buy videos where someone is able to perform sexual acts.
It raises anger and criticism among many Onlyfans creators-but there are loopholes in the law.
“In many countries, the purchase of sexual services is not prohibited, so creators will be able to sell to those countries,” says Jens Lapidus, writer and former lawyer.
In February, the government presented a proposal which means that it can be illegal to buy videos where someone performs sexual acts remotely.
The proposal means that it would be illegal to see when someone performs sexual documents online where the buyer affects the content. For example, it may be prohibited by sites such as Onlyfans, which provide real -time or on order sexual documents.
Creator: Politicians mix up videos and sex purchases
The proposal is welcomed by organizations that help women from prostitution and human trafficking.
But it raises anger and criticism from Onlyfans creators. They believe that it strikes hard against their economy and that politicians mix up videos and sex purchases.
– I think it’s really strange. Especially considering that I sell videos, I don’t sell sex. With this bill, I would suddenly be defined as someone who sells sex, says Onlyfans creator Jennifer Winter, who is really called something else.
– Up to 30 to 50 percent of my income is an order videos or live shows, so it is clear that it would affect me.
It will continue to be legal to buy
Jens Lapidus, writer and former lawyer, explains that the bill applies to sexual acts that someone else does against one or as one does on yourself. He believes, for example, a striptease or standing naked in front of the camera is not a sexual act
– It will still be legal to buy that kind of videos. You are not physical in the same room and you do not physically touch each other.
The government believes that we largely live our lives online, where the boundary between our physical lives and what we do is blurred, says Lapidus.
– Since it is believed that the sale of sex and prostitution is such a bad thing, and that it affects women, you think it must also cover the digital world. But where is the limit for pornography?
Clogging: selling to other countries
If the law comes into force, there are loopholes.
– In many countries, the purchase of sexual services is not prohibited. So the creators will be able to sell to those countries, but not to Swedish customers, says Lapidus.
He also believes that the evidence will be difficult to handle.
– It can be lumpy in regular sexual cases when the scouts are allowed to stand outside the hotel room and listen for sound. You will seize computers and check out transfers. Then you can see what is visible in the video, has there been payment and has it been communication? There will be evidence about this.
The opposition also supports the proposal, which would come into force on June 1.
