Mico Lampinen reached the finals in the discus and Minttu Laurila in the shot put.
Mico Lampinen finished eighth in the discus-throwing qualifying competition at the Under-20 World Championships in Lima, Peru on Friday. Lampinen threw 58.90 with his third. The qualifier was won by South Africa Juan Maraiswho threw 61.54.
From the final, which will be held early on Sunday, Finnish time, Lampinen will go for a long throw. My own record this season is 62.10.
Manu Kankaanniemi threw the discus throw in the qualification 56.53, and did not reach the final as the 15th in the qualification.
Mint Laurila sealed a place in the women’s shot put final with a third 15.37, which brought fourth place in the competition. The final will be contested early on Saturday Finnish time. The qualifier was won by the United States Akaoma Odelugawho pushed 16.55.
The Finnish men’s 4 x 100 meter relay team was fifth in its heat and 11th fastest overall with a time of 40.46. Finland ran in formation László Merényi, Kalle Hirvi, Alexander Mitchell and Juho Venäläinen. 39.80 was required from the time comparison to the final.
Aliisa Kiiski couldn’t find the best mood for the women’s 10,000 meter walk. Kiiski finished in 52:45.86 and in 32nd place.
