Lambton County is asking residents to help it preserve and tell the community’s hockey story.

The county archives are looking to add Sarnia-Lambton hockey stories, photos and memorabilia to its collection for possible use in an exhibition planned for July to October this year at the Lambton Heritage Museum in Lambton Shores.

Anyone with stories or items to share with the archives are asked to respond by Feb. 29 at lambtonmuseums.ca/hockey. They also call at 519-845-5426, or book an appointment at lambtonarchives.ca.
“We do have some material on hand on hockey teams and individuals throughout the county, however we don’t have anything comprehensive,” that “really digs into the depths of (local) hockey history,” said archivist-supervisor Nicole Aszalos.
The county archives also wants to add personal local hockey stories to its collection, Aszalos said.

The call for submissions aims to collect stories “and maybe share some of them as part of the exhibit and really start building up the collection, so we can preserve more of the hockey history,” she said.
“If there is a future researcher that is really passionate about hockey history, especially local hockey history, then we can be a resource.”
They’re looking for stories and photos about everything from individuals “playing hockey on a pond with friends” to local residents who played professionally or in other competitive leagues, she said
“We’re really interested in photos of individuals playing hockey,” she said. “It would be great to have the names of the individuals in the photos, because it preserves more of the story.”
Also sought are hockey event posters, tickets to local games and tournament booklets, she said.
Stories and photos can be submitted online. Anyone with items, such as hockey sticks, skates, jerseys, trophies or medals connected to Lambton they would like considered for the museum exhibit should fill out a form at lambtonmuseums.ca/hockey by Feb. 29. Museum staff will follow up about items selected.
