When Laholm chose to turn off two-thirds of the street lighting in the municipality, they were met with strong criticism. Therefore, a new proposal is now being investigated. The proposal involves turning off half of the municipality’s lighting, except at certain places, such as at schools and pedestrian crossings. There, the lighting must be left untouched.
Costs more than you save
But such a shutdown is estimated to cost much more than what the municipality is believed to save on the electricity bill. The municipality believes that it can still be worth it – as they take responsibility by saving electricity.
The Community Planning Board is expected to make a decision in February. But first, several committees, the police and other actors must express their views on the proposal.
