Thousands of animal experiments are carried out in Utrecht every year. Saskia Kliphuis is one of the researchers who works with laboratory animals, this time she needed hundreds of chickens. “By studying their behaviour, we try to improve the welfare of chickens in the industry,” explains Kliphuis. In recent months she has observed the chickens in various situations. “I don’t think it bothered them much, we made the animals as comfortable as possible.”
