Labor ministry investigating fatal farm collision

The provincial Ministry of Labor is investigating after a fatal collision on a farm on Windham East Quarter Line on Sunday morning.

Norfolk OPP say the driver of a tobacco harvester died at the scene.

Police units and paramedics responded at about 9:30 am

Ministry of Labor spokesperson Benjamin Lim said in an email the incident occurred at 170 Windham East Quarter Line Road in Norfolk County, at a business identified as P&S Van Berlo Ltd.

Lora VanBerlo told The Simcoe Reformer on Monday afternoon that they are cooperating with the Ministry of Labour’s active investigation, and are unable to provide details about the tragedy at this time.

“We are asking for privacy as we are mourning the loss of a valued family member,” she said. “We understand that the entire agricultural community is grieving at the same time along with us. We so greatly appreciate all of the support that the local community is providing us.”

The person’s name has not been released.

Victims services has been called in to assist, said Norfolk OPP Const. Ed Sanchuck.
