La Nupes celebrates its first anniversary this week. A candle that sometimes takes on the air of fire as relations between leftist parties and environmentalists are punctuated by repeated tensions. Dissensions exist both on the substance and on the form that Nupes must take to accomplish its ultimate objective: to win the presidential election in 2027.
Main object of dissension and collective incomprehension : the European elections which will take place next year. The rebellious want a common list in the name of the coherence of the Nupes, the form therefore, the ecologists are formally opposed to it because too many subjects oppose them precisely to La France insoumise (LFI) on Europe, the substance.
Same thing for the single candidacy for the 2027 presidential election. Rebellious, socialists and environmentalists are campaigning for, in the name of the absolute risk of victory for the far right. The Communists are much more reserved, burned by their adventure behind Jean-Luc Mélenchon in 2012 and 2017.
Meetings but no progress
Several meetings took place this week in an attempt to resolve differenceswithout much success. The gathering of party leaders on May 2 turned into a dialogue of the deaf. The battle against pension reform has generally shown a Nupes capable of remaining united in a collective fight. The left-wing and ecology parties have also welcomed several symbolic victories obtained in the Assembly in recent days, such as the extension of the tariff shield on energy prices or a protective text from EDF.
But it is still necessary to overcome the rivalries between the party apparatuses. “ Why not make a constituent assembly of the Nupes which would make it possible to establish the common program and to designate the candidate for 2027 ? “says a deputy. Several parties for their part defend the idea of a “ government contract “, less restrictive than a “ common program “.
