Since newly ranked 37th Nick Kyrgios made it all the way to the Wimbledon final, he has shown a sharp form curve.

On Monday, he won the entire ATP tournament in Washington and he faced the toughest possible opposition in the second round of the Canada Masters in Montreal. World number one Daniil Medvedev was on the other side.

After losing the first set in the tiebreak (7–2), Kyrgios woke up. He started the second set by directly breaking the Russian’s serve and then held to level the set at 1–1. The rest was a one-man story as Kyrgios won the final decisive set with a whopping 6–2.

In the next round, compatriot Alex De Minaur, who is ranked 21st in the world, awaits.

Norwegian world number seven Casper Ruud also advanced in Montreal after a 2–0 victory over Slovakian Alex Molcan. It was a more depressing story for the other Nordic players.

Both Finnish Emil Ruusuvuori and Danish star Holger Rune were defeated in two straight sets.
