Swedish justice announced this Thursday that it was ending the investigation opened last September for rape and sexual assault. Never officially cited, the Frenchman was accused directly by the Swedish press.

While Kylian Mbappé announced that he did not feel concerned by the Stockholm affair during his interview with Canal + on Sunday December 8, the French striker was perhaps right. This Thursday, December 12, Swedish justice decided to abandon the proceedings against the player (without citing him as since the start of the case) for lack of evidence. It is a press release published by the prosecutor in charge of the case which puts an end to the procedure.

“During the investigation, one person reasonably suspected of rape and two cases of sexual harassment were identified, but I consider that the evidence is not sufficient to continue the procedure and the investigation is therefore closed”, thus explained Marina Chirakova. “The named person has not been suspected of a crime.”

The course of the affair

Kylian Mbappé, was, according to the Swedish press, accused of rape after the complaint of a young woman on Saturday October 12, according to events which allegedly took place on October 10 near Stockholm. After launching a “FAKE NEWS” on social networks, the Frenchman was indeed the person targeted by the complaint, those around him would be certain of this as indicated by RMC Sport. According to information from the Swedish newspaper Expressen, the French player was considered “reasonably suspect” in this affair. This was the lowest level of suspicion in Swedish criminal law, but under which concrete circumstances suggest that a person has committed the acts of which he is accused.

According to Le Parisien, the player did not understand the accusations even if he admitted to a sexual relationship with a young woman. He could rely on written messages testifying to “a happy meeting and a consensual relationship” after the young woman’s departure from the hotel. But there was nothing to say that this young woman was indeed the complainant who presented herself to the police a few hours later.
