In Ukraine, the war continued this Saturday, June 24, while the rebellion in Russia of Wagner’s paramilitaries was at the center of attention. The Russian government says this evening that it will still achieve its objectives in the country, while Ukraine announces progress in several directions on the Eastern front.
With our correspondent in kyiv, Stephane Siohan
In kyiv, it has been a day of war like any other for almost a year and a half. An emotional roller coaster day, and a day that started with bombings. A Russian missile intercepted over kyiv last night fell on a building and left 3 dead and 11 injured. The war continued as events unfolded in Rostov-on-Don, and then towards Moscow.
Wagner’s coup de force occurs at a time when Ukraine is in full counter-offensive to reconquer these territories. Can Ukrainians expect this to work in their favour? And this, insofar as one imagines that a certain hesitation, it is the least that one can say, even a disorder must reign on the Russian side? This is one of the questions that arose during the day, especially when we were wondering if the Wagner militia was going to withdraw troops from Donbass to bring them to Russia. Finally, the troops of Evguéni Prigogine set out again from Rostov-on-the-Don and return to the barracks or to the military bases of his soldiers.
It’s a safe bet that the Ukrainians will take advantage of this period of hesitation to advance the pawns. And moreover, the Ukrainian Deputy Minister of Defense, Hanna Maliar, announced at the beginning of the evening the start of a large-scale counter-offensive towards the localities of Orikhovo-Vassylivka, Bakhmout, Bohdanivka, Yaguidné, Klichtchiïvka, Kourdioumivka . It seems that the Ukrainian army is pushing on several axes in the east and south of the country on Saturday.
Hostilities will continue. For the Ukrainian general staff, the war continues and what will happen in the Kremlin will undoubtedly be decided on the front line, on the battlefield.
