The comedian of the “Bref” series managed to create a buzz around his person by appearing on the set of the Quotidien show with hair. He who since his debut is bald. Does he wear a prosthesis? Has he had a hair transplant? What does it consist of? The answers on hair transplantation from Dr. Carl Ogereau, aesthetic doctor at the Challeng’hair clinic in Paris.

Baldness can be difficult to live with. This seems to have been the case with Kyan Khojandi, star of the miniseries “Brief”, who went bald at the age of 20. “I lost my hair when I was 20. It was very hard for me. For four years I’ve been pretty depressed”, he confides.

He therefore has the idea of wearing a hair prosthesis to get people talking about him and his next show, but raises the question of the physical change that can be experienced as a real trauma.

What are the solutions to fight baldness?

There are treatments for people who are starting to lose their hair. The cause ? It is genetic, according to Dr. Ogerau. “Some people will have their hair bulbs more sensitive to testosterone. This will thin the hair before it causes it to fall out, and it won’t grow back.” There are treatments to slow down this fall. “There’s Minoxidil lotion and a pill treatment, Finasteride.“explains Dr. Carl Ogereau, cosmetic doctor in Paris. Then when that doesn’t work, hair transplantation remains.

What does this consist of ?

Hair transplantation is an aesthetic procedure that aims to take grafts from a donor area and implant them in a recipient area. She has no age or gender criteria. “In our patient population, we have about 20% women“confirms Dr. Ogereau. “And with regard to age, we avoid treating patients who are too young, in order to be able to simply see the evolution of baldness, but it is a gesture that can be carried out at any age, practically“.

The patient must go to a first consultation appointment, to discuss his expectations with the doctor. “It’s time to see if the transplant is possible, if there is enough hair in the Hippocratic crown, on which we will take the samples” says the specialist. This is also the time to ask things with the patient. “This consultation also allows us to measure the patient’s expectations, with what he imagines as a result. Our role is to tell him clearly what he is entitled to expect, but not to idealize the result.“adds Dr. Ogereau.

A period of 15 days before the transplant

After this consultation, the patient is entitled to a period of 15 days of reflection. At the end of this period, he may benefit from a hair transplant. It takes place over one day, half a day for the removal of the grafts and another for their reimplantation. “We take an average of 2,000 grafts from the back of the shaved head. There is another technique that involves taking the skin in addition to the hair, but it is heavier because it leaves a scar”.

In women, the head may be partially shaved, in strips, to prevent it from showing too much. The grafts are then implanted by making a small incision. All under local anesthesia. “The grafts are taken in a homogeneous way so that it cannot be seen in the regrowth” says the doctor again.

Results eight to ten months later

Once the graft is complete, the patient leaves with a dressing on the harvesting area only. Everything will have healed after about ten days. It remains to observe the final result, about a year after the transplant. “Once this initial work has been done, I warn my patients that the hair loss may continue, not on the grafted hair which will not move, but on the others. And that a second graft may be necessary to fill the gap again. lack”. Finally, be aware that on average, an intervention of this type costs in France between 4,000 and 6,500 euros.
