At the age of 82, football icon Pelé passed away after a period of illness.
Now he is celebrated by Kurt “Kurre Hamrin.

He is called by many the greatest of all time. And during Thursday evening came the sad news that Pele left earthly life after a period of illness. Pelé had his big breakthrough at the World Cup in Sweden in 1958. One of his opponents was Kurt Hamrin, a winger in the Swedish national team that took World Cup silver after losing in the final against Pelé’s Brazil.
“A nice man”
– I didn’t know much about Pelé when we were to meet in the World Cup final in 1958, right then he wasn’t the star he was going to be, says Kurt Hamrin to SVT.
“Kurre” remembers the icon with great joy.
– I remember him as a nice man. I met him once in Florence by chance, he was on his honeymoon. He came towards me and hugged me outside the town. A very warm person.

Pelé won three World Cup golds during his career, in 1958, 1962 and 1970. And Kurt Hamrin, as you know, was present during the World Cup final in 1958 when Sweden was defeated by Brazil and a then 17-year-old Pelé.
– Playing against him was not that difficult, he was so much better than everyone else and he was never ugly in the game. We had different types of games, he helped the whole team more, says Hamrin.

Pelé was considered by many to be the very best player of all time, and Kurre Hamrin believes that there is nothing bad to say about the brass.
