The commander of the Kurdish forces said, according to al-Jazeera, that the goal of the forces is to stop fighting elsewhere in Syria and to participate in the political process in the country.
In northern Syria, the US-backed Kurdish SDF forces announced early Wednesday that they had reached a ceasefire agreement with the Turkish-backed SNA forces.
Commander of the SDF forces Mazloum Abdi announced that the United States acted as mediator in the negotiations.
He says CNN’s according to which the Kurdish forces are withdrawing from the city of Manbij, where there have been bloody battles in recent days between Turkish-backed forces of Kurdish fighters.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a monitoring organization that follows the war in Syria, says that at least 218 people have died in the fighting over the course of three days.
Abdi said Qatari media al-Jazeera according to which the combatants withdraw from the area as soon as possible. According to Abdi, the aim of the forces is to stop fighting in other parts of Syria as well and to participate in the political process in the country.
Kurdish forces also fought in the east
The rebels who overthrew the previous regime in Syria at the weekend announced at night that they had captured the city of Deir ez-Zor, which is located in the eastern part of the country. The rebels said in their statement that they had taken control of the entire city.
According to the representative of the rebels, the ousted president of Syria Bashar al-Assad troops as well as Iranian fighters had fled the city as insurgents seized areas around the population center.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights confirmed that the Kurdish forces had withdrawn from the area.
The rebels have been fighting in the eastern part of the country against the SDF forces. It is not yet known how the recent ceasefire agreement signed by the SDF in Manbij, Syria, might affect the situation in the eastern part of the country.
According to Al-Jazeera, a rebel representative said late Wednesday night that rebel fighters have continued to advance in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor after capturing the city of Deir ez-Zor.
Countless groups are fighting for control of Deir ez-Zor province, reports al-Jazeera.
