Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba firmly rejects any notion that Crimea would be an exception as the country tries to eject Russia’s invasion forces.

– We are united by the principles of the UN Charter and the shared belief that Crimea is Ukraine and will return to Ukrainian control, he says via video link to the international forum Black Sea Security Conference in Romania’s capital Bucharest.

– Whenever you hear someone, anywhere in the world, who says that Crimea is somehow special and should not be returned to Ukraine like all other parts of our territory, know one thing: Ukraine categorically rejects such overtures.

In some parts of the world, during the course of the war, it has been mentioned that one way to attract Russia to the negotiating table would be to allow Russia to keep the Crimean peninsula, which was conquered in 2014. Some lower-level Ukrainian officials have also spoken vaguely about this, but the Ukrainian leadership has never opened the door even ajar to such a compromise.
