Kristine Stavås Skistad’s warning to the Swedes ahead of the World Ski Championships

Jonna Sundling won the sprint in Engadin.
Now she and the other Swedes receive a warning from rival Kristine Stavås Skistad.
– I feel much better in Trondheim, she tells Viaplay.

The Norwegian sprint star Kristine Stavå’s Ski City25, excelled in the comeback in France’s Les Rousses last weekend. But in the Swiss Engadin it was Swedish Jonna Sundling30, a notch sharper.

No victory for Stavås Skistad

It was thus not a second straight World Cup victory for the Norwegian. Sundling was too strong and led the final from start to finish. Stavås Skistad was able to keep up with the Swede’s high pace for a while, but she couldn’t last the whole way.
– I thought it was tough today, it was tough going uphill. But I think it’s going well today, I got out what I could. I thought I would catch her at the end, but I was quite stiff, she told Viaplay after second place.

It was a stable second place for Stavås Skistad. She describes it as a hard and tough race with many climbs, which does not suit her very well. She likes it better when it’s flat and you don’t have to climb anything. Kristine therefore sends a small warning to Jonna before the WC sprint on Thursday, February 27. She believes that she is at home in Trondheim, which will benefit her.
– I feel much better in Trondheim and at zero meters above sea level, she says.

Stavås Skistad wants to beat Sundling

Jonna Sundling was satisfied with the win in the Engadin.
– It’s tough when you know who you have behind you. And it can easily happen that you get stressed in your riding technically and lose speed. But now I could still ride calmly to be a sprinter and get good pressure. So it was fun, she tells SVT Sport.

Stavås Skistad told SVT in particular that she is inspired and motivated a lot by Sundling and that she really wants to beat the Swede in the WC.
– It’s not so strange, I think. I take it as something positive, says Jonna and then answers how it feels to be gold favorite in the WC sprint:
– So, it might be difficult to give it up completely with the recent competitions. But you know yourself that there is a lot that has to be right. But I’m looking forward to the WC and what comes after.
