The season finale in Lahti was not what Kristine Stavås Skistad hoped.
Although she looked to go against victory in the sprint, she was beaten on the rally.
– I’ve been missing that little extra all year, she tells Viaplay.
The season had not even started before Kristine Stavås Skistad26, was forced into an unplanned stomach surgery. The talk was that she could not compete until after the turn of the year 2024/2025. It wasn’t really that bad with the Norwegian sprint star, but she has not been recognized by the problems.
Kristine Stavås Skistad’s great disappointment
It was obvious that Stavås Skistad placed its entire focus on the home World Cup in Trondheim. She was, according to herself, the one to beat to take the gold on the sprint. It turned out that she was absolutely right. Kristine had to settle for a silver medal because Jonna Sundling30, took their third straight World Cup gold in sprint.

The rest of the World Cup became a failure for Stavås Skistad. She went home after a seventh place in the team sprint with her tail between her legs. Especially considering that the Swedish ladies put the mittens on all six gold medals in the World Cup.
“I can’t think about it,” she told the Norwegian newspaper Dagbladet.
– This is not how we thought it would go. But Sweden is strong, it is really just to sharpen and get better for next year, she continues, referring to the fact that it is the Olympics in Milan/Cortina 2026.
Stood for historical failure
The tough period continued after the World Cup for Stavås Skistad. When she did her first competition (city sprint in Tallinn) after the championship, she missed – for the first time ever on 26 attempts – to move on to the final from the semi -finals. A historical failure.
– I completely missed the last turn. It is sad when I really feel good and have control, but then I make a mistake. It should not happen. Just a very tactical mistake, I can only blame myself, she said in Viaplay afterwards.

During the last World Cup weekend of the season, the bad luck was again for Kristine. She admittedly went to the final in Friday’s sprint in Lahti. It also looked like it could be victory for her. Then suddenly the German rider came Coletta Rydzek and sprinted her on the rally. It was a real bang.
– I do what I have to do and normally I should take it home, but now it is like this. I’ve been missing that little extra all year. It’s boring, but it’s nowadays, says Stavås Skistad in Viaplay.
Flat case for stavås skistad in the team sprint
It was above all the fact that she was beaten in the final, where she is usually the strongest, that made her cursed.
– It is really frustrating to be beaten in something you are actually best at, she says.
It didn’t go any better in Saturday’s team sprint either. Stavås Skistad and her partner Mathilde Myhrvold managed to qualify as team 15, so it was on the verge that they missed the final. Once there, they only came in seventh place and they were beaten by both Sweden and Norway’s second team. A complete failure for the 26-year-old.
Clearly a tough ending to the season for Kristine Stavås Skistad. And when you sum up the year, it has not been her best at all. Far from. A World Cup victory and a silver medal in the World Cup was not what she wanted.
