Norwegian cross-country skier Kristine Stavås Skistad has kept a low profile during the pre-season.
Now it turns out that she was forced to have stomach surgery and misses the premiere. She will be gone indefinitely.
– The operation went according to plan and Kristine is now looking ahead to the highlight of the year, the WC in Trondheim, says national team doctor Ove Feragen.
It has been very quiet around the Norwegian sprint star Kristine Stavå’s Ski City25, during the summer. Neither her teammates nor rivals have had any insight into her training. In the Norwegian media, she has been described as “mysterious” as she has not been seen for several months.

Therefore, Tuesday’s news came as a shock to many. Stavås Skistad has undergone stomach surgery and will miss the national premiere in Beitostölen. It is still unclear when she can return.
– The operation has gone according to plan and Kristine is now looking ahead to the highlight of the year, the WC in Trondheim. She will spend the coming weeks on rehabilitation, training, and will return to competition when she is ready for this, says the Norwegian national team doctor Ove Feragen.
– She won’t come to Beitostölen and certainly not to Ruka. Then we have to make an ongoing assessment of when she can be back, he tells NTB.

Apparently, the stomach surgery was not planned, but came as a surprise even for the Norwegian and her team. She had surgery last Friday.
– I don’t know much about it, but I can say that it was an operation that had to be carried out and that came a bit hastily. Kristine does not want to say more than that, says Feragen to VG.

The World Cup premiere in Finnish Ruka is on November 29. Her long-term goal for the season is to be at the WC, which most other skaters are also focusing on.
