Kristine Stavås Skistad is back after her stomach operation and on Saturday she will compete in Lillehammer.
Now the Norwegian sprint star has spoken to the media for the first time in 175 days.
– I have been like an aunt for 100 years with a walker, she says at a press conference.
It was in mid-November that the news came to the Norwegian cross-country skier Kristine Stavå’s Ski City25, would not be able to compete during the domestic premiere weekend in Beitostölen. The World Cup in Ruka was also in danger. The sprint star had been forced to undergo stomach surgery and would be out indefinitely.
Stavås Skistad is back in Lillehammer
Since no one had heard anything about Stavås Skistad for several months, when she went completely under the radar after last season, it of course came as a shock that she would suddenly not be involved during the start of 2024/2025.
– I can say that it was an operation that had to be carried out and that came a bit hastily. Kristine doesn’t want to say more than that, said Norway’s national team doctor Ove Feragen when.

But after just three weeks, instead came a gratifying message. Kristine was on her way back and might be able to compete already during the second World Cup weekend in Lillehammer. During Thursday, she was actually present at a press conference in the Norwegian city. It was the first time in 175 days that she spoke to the press.
– I don’t want to go into what happened so much. But an operation was needed. And I got better after that. I have had close contact with the national team doctor. None of us thought I would be able to compete before Christmas, she reveals, which, among others, VG writes about.

The last few weeks have been special for the Norwegian. She has taken it easy and rested a lot. At the same time, there has been a little too much time to think about the future and what is to come.
– I have to admit that it has been very tough. But I feel like I got through it and I’m happy about it. So I feel like you appreciate things a lot more after experiencing tough things. I feel very grateful to be here today, she says.

In order for it to even be possible to make a comeback even now, she has had to cope with a number of things physically. There has been a list of demands that she has had to tick off point by point.
– I have had to get down to the “right age”. I’ve been like a 100-year-old aunt with a walker. I have worked down my age and now I am very happy that I am back at the right age, she says.
